There's also a risk if someone dodge gets into the group then that's quite a few numbers burnt.

Not necessarily, eventually that whatsapp group will turn into one massively long string of texts that you will have to search through to find the info you want. That means either scrolling manually or using whatsapp's basic search bar. Unless there is someone to setup and administrate a proper whatsapp group with communities and specific channels of different topics it's going to get very disorganized very quickly. So why would you want to do all of that when it's mostly done for you on this forum already.
